Ready to Work in Boulder
Ready to Work in Boulder

While doing a little research, and deciding which NAP I should fix up, I thought it would be worthwhile to share a little on this basic, sometimes overlooked, part of any project that involves marketing, especially if you have competition that might be monitoring you, looking for a crack in your strategy. And, if you ever get cold-called by some marketing firm, SEO agency, or hero who tries to paint a dark picture of how they are your last hope before the dark forces of the interwebs consume your website and your dreams. And, for a one time payment of the green stuff in your wallet they can save you from this crisis. In fact, they have even done all critical number crunching, and by adding a small monthly fee of the green stuff in your wallet, they will defend you.

So, early 2016, I was walking down the 16 street mall in downtown Denver, when a white knight, who I can only assume might have be from the same castle as the earlier example, contacted me to explain the looming crisis, and to assure me that, with their tools and knowledge, I would not be a victim. Me, being the very kind and respectful person I am, allowed this person to explain details of this crisis to me.

In their own colorful way, they wanted to sell me an SEO package and position my Denver, Colorado Botox profiles and website above the competition. Not to waste any of his time, I explained that the Botox stuff, was just me toying around with Englewood and Littleton words, addresses, local competition services, targeted keywords, targeted advertising and what they bid on, who they appear networked with and who they weren't. Essentially, researching those that you desire to be competitive with and sort of reverse engineering their approach and results...and thanked him, but declined his assistance.

So, in order to put in perspective, allow me to use a post in my subreddit (below) to illustrate something. Let me make quick work of an acronym first: NAP - Name, Address, Phone

The Boulder Bridge House and Homelessness

This is information that the Bridge House in Boulder compiled for their presentation or website, or both smashed together. They seem to have a very clear understanding of the demographic makeup of the residents in their Ready to Work program at 4747 Table Mesa, right as you enter Boulder, and so on. That is very diligent and everything looks well in order, except there is something critical that should have been prioritized much earlier.

A little backstory to supplement my mediocre storytelling ability: the Bridge House in Boulder was established long before the Ready to Work program was established in Boulder. I believe in 2015, they were still in Boulder, just at different location.

Prior to their new location at 4747 Table Mesa, they were at a different address which is another reason it is hard to find their current location, if you did not know they had moved. Bing maps shows the Boulder Bridge House still at the following location, :

Bridge House
1120 Pine St,
Boulder, Colorado

Why is this important, in fact very important, for SEO? Because, it is well-known that search engines compare your complete NAP and look for inconsistencies. What do we see? Lots and lots of confusion......

The Bridge House, Ready to Work facility is host to several beneficial programs and activities for residents and/or participants. So, at any given moment, there are a variety of people with diverse skill sets who are largely from the local community that teach, mentor, and do other wonderful things.

It just so happens that the topic of SEO was brought up by me, and the topic did not make it too far before it was deemed -- unnecessary.

Hmm, let me think about that for a moment...using the Boulder Bridge House, Ready to Work NAP to the defense of our often misunderstood friend, SEO.

I will preface this noting, there lots of inconsistencies in things I have set up, but I know what they are, where they are, and why they are in place. Sometimes absolute laziness, other times for testing. More laziness than testing probably.

What our friend SEO shows has the potential of being more troublesome than inconsistent NAP. Not being pragmatic when it comes to SEO has left them wide open for all sorts of potential issues. Claiming addresses and locations are key to local SEO. Seeing it vulnerable, it is claimed and registered under me for safe keeping until their marketing department needs it.
